Goals & Objectives 2012-13

GOAL 1: To review programs, curriculum/instructional strategies, and assessment tools in order to evaluate and improve the achievement of students with different ability levels as they work toward achieving the learning standards.

Objective 1: To implement a new K-6 ELA Reading Program, Reading Street, that focuses on Common Core Learning Standards (CCLS) including an emphasis on challenging informational text, authentic literature, and an integrated intervention model for students who require additional support.

Objective 2: To ensure that all members of the Oceanside community are informed about the expectations of the CCLS and to provide high quality staff development for our teachers as they transition to the expectations of the CCLS.

Objective 3: To continue the successful implementation of the K-6 Math Program, enVision, with adjustments made as they relate to the CCLS, and to develop appropriate assessments to ensure the progress of our students.

Objective 4: To continue to develop strategies to improve the effectiveness of Regents level classes at the high school to ensure that the instruction is engaging and differentiated appropriately to support all students in the mastery of concepts and skills as demonstrated on Regents exams.

Objective 5: To analyze a variety of student data in order to ensure that all students within the district are able to reach academic success through the use of systematic interventions where needed.

Objective 6: To evaluate the new middle school schedule to determine the impact of its changes in the areas of expanded instructional blocks, research,
personal finance, human relations, and our student support classes.

GOAL 2: To review and evaluate current research in effective models of supervision, evaluation, and staff development.

Objective 1: To develop appropriate APPR plans for teacher and principal evaluations and to implement those parts required by New York State law in the 2012-13 school year.

GOAL 3: To continue to develop a wellness program that addresses and promotes healthy options in terms of the nutritional, physical, and emotional development of all students.

Objective 1: To enhance and establish programs that focus on addressing the risky behaviors of drug and alcohol use among our students.

Objective 2: To ensure that the components of the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) are implemented in our schools, building on our existing Social and Emotional Literacy program (SEL), Caring Majority, Bullyproofing Your Schools, and other strong programs, in order to provide all of our students with a safe and secure learning environment.

Objective 3: To continue our district-wide SEL implementation by introducing the program to the high school through the vehicles of our GEM Mentoring program, as well as our Health Education classes.

GOAL 4: To increase the use of technology as an enhancement to student learning and as a management information tool.

Objective 1: To pilot the use of iPads with a team of students and teachers in the middle school in an effort to harness the power of this instructional technology for our students.

Objective 2: To upgrade our operating systems and office applications to the most recent Microsoft versions and to upgrade our hardware to support this.

Objective 3: To create a new broadcasting studio to support our involvement with MSG Varsity and to enhance instruction and capabilities for video/TV production.

Objective 4: To enhance communication with parents by investigating and discussing for the 2013-2014 school year the use of the Parent Portal for giving parents on-going information about student progress and tests.

GOAL 5: To ensure that our facilities are adequate to meet the needs of all students.

Objective 1: To continue to monitor all capital construction projects.

Objective 2: To continue to provide all stakeholders with timely and appropriate information about the initiation and ongoing progress of all capital projects.

Objective 3: To make the middle school wireless and to acquire the necessary hardware, applications, and network management to support the iPad pilot.
